Welcome to Guitar Sculptures Art
Chres Jensen is a Canadian avant-garde artist. Born in Alberta, 1961. His sculptures are moving towards a New Cubism movement using 3D mixed media. In Chres’ early career he explored various art styles and mediums. After years of experimentation, he chose the GUITAR as a theme and muse rather than adhere to one movement or style of creativity. This allows Chres the freedom to explore his theme in a variety of expressions.
By his own admission, Chres is inspired by the infinite possibilities that was present in the Art movements that occured prior to World War Two. Influenced primarily by the 1913 Armory Show in the USA. During this movement energized artists such as, Braque, Georges (French, 1882-1963) known for synthetic cubist, with his use of added color and representation of objects through large, flat areas. Schwitters, Kurt (German, lived in exile, 1887-1948) known for use of surrealism, dadaism and merz, proving art can be made out of destruction into beauty . Duchamp, Marcel (French, 1887-1968) known as an innovator of dadaism, and his use of objects manipulated into artworks. Also a leader in conceptual art. Arshile Gorky (Turkish, emigrated to USA, 1904-1948) known for new expressionism abstract. Movements such as surrealism, dadaism and cubism are all components of Chres’ guitar art sculptures.
Chres enjoys exploring depth of field and movement in his works. “Static pieces after a time are slightly boring.”,Chres Jensen. In his pieces, he works to instill a sense of life or expectation.
Chres Jensen is currently the artist in residence at Gallery 244 in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia. Having moved from the west to eastern Canada has given him the time and space to continue creating distinctive music-art and collaboration within the arts community. Educated as a philosopher, worked as a farmer and discovered art and languages via travel. Trilingual
